The straight answer
Private dental care means you or a membership plan pay for your treatment directly. In practice, that means longer appointment times, a wider choice of materials and techniques, continuity with the same clinician and a written cost estimate agreed before anything begins.
Two things drive most enquiries. The first is access: finding a practice taking on new patients in Nottingham. The second is time, because a short appointment leaves little room to explain findings, discuss options or settle nerves.
You book an examination rather than registering onto a list. Your dentist assesses your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, taking X-rays where clinically indicated, then sets out the findings and the realistic options in a written plan with costs.

Step by step
Call the practice or send an enquiry. Our friendly team will explain what the first appointment involves and what it costs before anything is booked. There is no registration form to fill in.
You are welcomed at reception and offered a drink of your choice. If you are feeling anxious, do let the team know when you arrive so your dentist has that in mind before you sit down.
Your dentist asks what brought you in and what has happened dentally in the past. They will also ask what you would like to change. Your medical history and any medication are recorded at this point.
The examination covers your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and soft tissues. It also includes screening for early signs of decay, gum disease and oral cancer. X-rays are taken where clinically indicated.
You receive a personalised written plan setting out the findings, recommended treatment, sequence, likely timings and transparent costs. Where more than one option is reasonable, the alternatives are included so you can compare them.
The team will talk you through your payment options, including the membership plans, and whether joining one would suit you.
Treatment is booked in the order agreed in your plan. Anything urgent or uncomfortable is dealt with first; elective and cosmetic work is scheduled once your mouth is stable.
Your dentist sets a recall interval based on your individual risk of dental disease, which is why some patients are seen every three months and others once a year.
The first appointment is an examination and a discussion. No treatment is carried out without your agreement, and you leave with a written plan and costs.

Yes. Mapperley Dental Studio welcomes new private patients. You book an examination rather than applying to register, and from that appointment onwards you are a patient of the practice. Our friendly team will explain what the first visit involves before booking it.
No. You can pay for each appointment as you go. Some patients do. The monthly plans spread the cost of routine examinations and hygiene visits. There are multiple benefits of joining a plan, including a 10% discount on non-cosmetic treatment and priority appointment availability. The team will talk plans through after your examination, when you know what care you actually need.
No. A membership plan is a monthly payment covering the specific examinations and hygiene appointments listed in that plan. It gives members a 10% discount on non-cosmetic treatment but does not pay for treatment itself. Insurance products, by contrast, pay out against claims. If you already hold dental insurance, tell the team so it can be taken into account.
Call the practice as early in the day as possible and describe what is happening. The emergency appointment fee covers the assessment. Any treatment needed is charged on top. Membership plan members have exclusive access to an out-of-hours phone line to confirm arrangements for managing the dental emergency. Members are also eligible for the Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance Scheme.
Yes. Late evening appointments are available, and Saturday appointment sessions run ad hoc. Saturday slots are pre-booked only, so they must be arranged in advance. Late and Saturday appointments are popular, so booking ahead gives you more choice of time.
Do mention it when you book, so the team can allow for it before you arrive. Your dentist works at a pace you set. A first appointment is not an examination, but an assessment and a conversation. There is no treatment on the day unless you ask for it. You can agree a hand signal to pause at any point and you are welcome to bring someone with you.
That is one of the main reasons people choose private care, and continuity is how the practice prefers to work. Seeing the same clinician means changes in your gums, bite or existing restorations are compared against that person's own previous findings rather than a set of notes. Mention your preference when booking.
You do not need permission to change dentist and there is no formal transfer process. Book an examination here and mention your previous dentist, plus roughly when you were last seen. If you have had recent X-rays or treatment elsewhere, say so because it may avoid repeating diagnostics unnecessarily.
